You never know
What's silent, no—
Until the voice you need is lost.
A crowded hall, an empty chair,
A hundred faces, no one there.
If fear has closed around your name,
Call through the dark,
Call through the pain,
I will not leave your voice unheard.
I will come running on one word.
I used to praise the quiet halls—
No questions, no demands at all.
I ate alone and called it peace,
I swore a man should need the least.
Then one familiar voice was gone,
The fire burned, the dark stayed long.
I held my cup and understood:
A man needs more than stone and wood.
I never knew how fear could speak
